Nationalism as a naturalization process

An argument for a concept of nationalism is presented, where the context of the history of ideas (Kedourie) is broadened (with the help of Greenfeld and Anderson) towards a context of process- respectively reflexive sociology (Elias, Bourdieu). Within this context, nationalism is understood as a specific naturalization process, namely the nationalization of the state and the habitus in modernizing state societies. The further this process develops, the better the national habitus becomes attuned to the structure of the nationalizing state and the more nationalism becomes an invisible power, that is, pure symbolic power.
