Kapinallinen mandariini: Pierre Bourdieun kuolemasta kymmenen vuotta

A Rebellious Mandarin: Ten years from Pierre Bourdieu's Death

The column examines Bourdieu's reactions towards extending bureaucracy of the French research administration and his significance as the researcher of science and a critic of neoliberalist ideology. Bourdieu describes apparatchiks as researchers and state officials without notable identities, yet willing to judge the genuine scholars' intellectual work against their own lowly standards. The assumption is that apparatchiks are chiefly discernable on their envious and base group habitus, while opposed by the scholars' creative collective habitus. In Finland, apparatchiks seem numerous in the scientifico-political realm, where uncertain economic situation and  institutional transformations give them a "touch of power".
